Cost of Attendance

What is Cost of Attendance?

Our Financial Aid Office uses an estimated Cost of Attendance (COA) to determine a student’s financial aid eligibility. We use the standard budgets, updated by the University of Hawaii’s Office of the Vice President of Academic Planning and Policy, which reflect the changes in our national cost of living figures and local community costs.

A student’s COA will include costs associated with only the credits that are applicable to their degree program at Leeward CC. Please see Course Program of Study (CPoS) for more information.

Why Is Cost Of Attendance Important?

If you’re receiving federal aid, you cannot receive more than their Estimated Cost of Attendance. Your Estimated Cost of Attendance is also used to determine your Demonstrated Financial Need, which determines your eligibility for need-based aid (grants, Direct Subsidized Loan, etc.):

Estimated Cost of Attendance – Expected Family Contribution (calculated by the federal processor once a FAFSA is completed)

Demonstrated Financial Need
Upon student’s request, additional costs for books/supplies required for certain majors, documented childcare, neighbor island travel allowance and/or educational expenses related to disability that are not provided by other assisting agencies may be considered for the Federal Direct Loan Program.

* Based on a student enrolled in 12 credits/semester; Resident tuition is $131/credit; Pacific Island tuition
cost is $196.50/credit; Non-resident tuition is $345/credit.
**Fees are based on credits enrolled in up to a max of $15/semester.
***For students living on military base housing or receiving a military housing allowance, cost of attendance
will only include basic expenses incurred for board.
