COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Finding employment in healthcare can be difficult if you don’t have training or experience. Leeward CC now offers a Medical
Assisting Program designed to get you started, and features preparation/ testing fees for multiple credentials to give you a
well-rounded skillset. Our standards are aligned with national certifications and our evening/weekend schedule is made to
accommodate those who may be working or going to school during the day.
As a Medical Assistant you may pursue a rewarding career in a number of settings, including: family and internal
medicine clinics, hospitals, pain centers, and a variety of specialty areas.
This is a 784 hours course in medical assisting that includes basic skills and knowledge for entry level employment.

This is a Hybrid class, classes will meet in-person and online. Classes will meet every Monday, Wednesday & Thursday from 5:30pm - 9:30pm (08/04/2025 - 03/30/2026). Class will be on break for the holiday season from 12/19/2025-01/04/2026, class will resume on 01/05/2026.
Course Details
The graduate of this course is able to:
- Apply entry-level medical assisting skills and knowledge at a medical facility.
- Use appropriate medical terminology while engaging in patient care.
- Provide patient care and coordination of services.
- Communicate appropriately and effectively with patient and co-workers.
- High School Completion
- SAT/ACT 11th grade level math and reading or college transcript
- Basic computer skills
- Completed Leeward CC Physical Examination Clearance Form.
- Proof of 2-Step TB test completed within the last six months.
- Proof of MMR vaccination (titer is acceptable).
- Proof of Hep B series vaccination (titer is acceptable).
- Copy of you photo ID
- Current Criminal Abstract (https://ecrim.ehawaii.gov) (abstract needs to be submitted within 30 days of issuance).
Individuals interested in the Medical Assisting training program must apply and meet all requirements prior to registering for a class.
Registration is based on the order of COMPLETED APPLICATIONS RECEIVED, FIRST TO QUALIFY AND SECURE TUITION PAYMENT.
STEP 1: Prepare all your documents.
Go to the “Eligibility Requirements” tab above and prepare all the necessary paperwork.
STEP 2: Submit documents.
You can either mail or hand carry documents containing personal information.
Otherwise, all documents may be emailed to workdev@hawaii.edu. It is preferred to have all documents sent in one email to allow for faster processing.
STEP 3: Submit payment and register.
Once all of your documents have been approved and your application has been accepted, please submit payment.
Payment can be made in the form of a check, cash, or debit/credit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.
If agencies are paying on behalf of students, please submit the Agency Authorization Form.
