The University of Hawaiʻi Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer+ (LGBTQ+) Equality is committed to fostering a shared responsibility for inclusiveness, equality, respect, and social justice throughout the UH System.

Preferred Name Policy
Preferred Name Change Form at Leeward Community College

Please refer to form page 2, part 2d for more information regarding a preferred first name change

Preferred Name Change on Leeward Community College Student ID Card:
To change your Student ID card to reflect your preferred name change please complete the following:

• Submit the Student Data Change Form to Admissions and Records
• Come to the Student Services Welcome Center, AD 201, to receive a new ID card with your preferred name by bringing your payment of $10 cash or check and verifying your preferred name change is reflected in MyUH Services.

• Click on Account in the left menu. 
• Click on “Modify Details”
• Update Name

Leeward Community College currently has two all-gender restrooms located in the following buildings:

• Learning Commons first floor by the elevator
• Education Building first floor
• Wai’anae Moku campus (1 designated restroom)

We Mālama ALL Students

Free menstrual hygiene products are available in all public restrooms on our campus, in compliance with UH Policy EP 1.205 to “support a campus community of diverse students, faculty, staff, and visitors inclusive of their gender identity and/or gender expression.”

Doing so combats the stigma surrounding menstruation and ensures that all people feel safe using the restroom consistent with their gender identity. Leeward Community College takes our mission seriously – to “mālama all students” – including our women, transgender, non-binary, and māhū students.

The Safe Zone Program’s objective is for trained participants to utilize their gained knowledge and skills to foster a safe and inclusive community for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff to promote social justice in the University of Hawaiʻi System.

Upon completion of a Safe Zone Training, participants will be invited to become Advocates in the University of Hawaiʻi System Safe Zone Program.

Any office or faculty/staff member that has the LGBTI Safe Zone poster is a part of the previous Safe Zone Allies Program.  Any office or faculty/staff/student office that has the LGBTQ+ Safe Zone Poster declared they are advocates. View the list of faculty/staff/students at Leeward Community College who have declared they are an ally or an advocate.

The Safe Zone program recognizes Leeward Community College’s Rae Watanabe, Assistant Professor in English, and the late Joan Souza, former Leeward Community College Counselor, for creating the initial safe zone program that is now embraced system-wide.
